commissioning party

In short and in plain language

The commissioning party is the person who orders work on a building.

This can be the owner or a tenant. It can also be a firm that passes on a job.

Before the work, they tell the firm what they know about the building. This includes the year it was built.

Definition
Term used in the German Hazardous Substances Ordinance for whoever arranges work on buildings or technical installations. This can be a developer, owner or tenant, or a firm passing on a job. Before work starts, this party gives the firm doing the work the information it has, for example the construction year.
