Laws, courts and authorities
BGB
Abbreviation for Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch
In short and in plain language
The BGB is a big German law book. It sets the rules for everyday deals between people and firms.
It covers things like contracts, buying and selling, and paid work.
For trade firms it has rules on how the customer accepts the work. It also covers faults found after the work.
Private customers can take back some contracts. The law has rules on that too.
Definition
The German Civil Code governs general private law in Germany, such as contracts, sales and work services. For trade businesses it contains rules on contracts for work, acceptance, warranty and the right of withdrawal in consumer contracts.
